WORKING CONDITIONS
Most Surgical specialists work in a hospital or medical facility environment, where others who practice identical or similar procedures surround them. General family doctors are able to have their own solo clinics and usually refer their patients to specific specialists as they deem fit.
The workplace of surgeons is primarily in the operating room. They commonly meet with patients in an office within the hospital rooms as well. Surgeons are on their feet for many hours at a time. A day often begins very early in the morning performing surgeries. Surgeons can perform rounds in the morning and in the evenings, before and after their surgeries to check on the pre and post operative condition of their patients. Since emergency situations are very common in the hospital environment, emergency surgeries must take place meaning that surgeons are on call even on they day off. The life of a surgeon is often very tiring with little personal time. Surgeons are sometimes unable to keep up their own personal and family life for the satisfaction of helping their patients.
